The Victron BlueSolar 55Wp monocrystalline solar panel is a robust glass panel for campers, boats, and other off-grid installations. Its anodized aluminum frame, tempered glass, and bypass diodes make it suitable for fixed mounting in various conditions.
- 55Wp nominal power
- Monocrystalline solar cells
- Dimensions: 715 × 445 × 25 mm
- Weight: 3.34 kg
Why this Victron BlueSolar panel?▾
- Good performance in low light conditions and sensitivity across a broad light spectrum.
- Waterproof junction box and bypass diodes to minimize power loss due to partial shading.
- Sturdy aluminum frame and tempered glass for fixed mounting.
- Integrates well with a Victron MPPT charge controller and VictronConnect.
Actual yield depends on season, solar irradiation, shading, mounting direction, and battery charge status.

What else do you need?▾
- Charge controller: Victron SmartSolar MPPT 75/10 for a single panel on a 12V battery installation.
- Solar cable: 4mm², 2 × 5m with connectors.
- Battery cable and fuse: 4mm², 2 × 1m with 15A fuse, with the fuse close to the battery or positive busbar.
- Roof gland: choose a suitable roof gland for the internal cable routing.
- Cable management: use UV and weather-resistant adhesive tie mounts and cable ties.
Never connect a solar panel directly to the battery. Always use a correctly sized charge controller and protection.
Mounting on a camper van, boat or frame▾
Camper van: preferably use aluminum Z-profiles on a ribbed or slightly curved metal roof.
Boat: plastic corner brackets are a practical choice on a suitable flat deck.
Flat camper roof: use the Solara ABS spoiler 45 cm white. Preferably place the panel lengthwise on the vehicle, with the short sides front and rear, so that the front spoiler guides the driving wind over the panel.
Measure the available space beforehand and consider roof hatches, ventilation, rails, and mounting hardware. Carefully degrease the surface, use suitable construction adhesive and primers, and seal all penetrations watertight.
Usage with a 24V battery▾
A single panel does not have sufficient operating voltage for a 24V battery; use multiple panels in series or a higher-voltage panel.
In a 24V system, the same MPPT can process approximately twice the solar panel power as with 12V, but only when panel voltage, maximum open-circuit voltage, and wiring are suitable.
Common mistakes▾
- Connecting the panel directly to the battery.
- Only considering wattage and forgetting panel voltage or Voc.
- Using a cable that is too thin or omitting a fuse.
- Combining panels with different electrical properties without checking.
- Not accounting for shading, roof obstacles, and space for mounting.
