What else do you need?
  1. Charge controller: Victron SmartSolar MPPT 75/10 for one panel on a 12V battery installation.
  2. Solar cable: 4mm² solar cable set. The panel has a junction box with screw terminals; ensure strain relief and waterproof sealing of the connection.
  3. Battery cable and fuse: 4mm² battery cable set, 2 × 1m with 15A fuse, with the fuse close to the battery or positive busbar.
  4. Roof gland: a suitable cable gland for routing the cables inside.
  5. Cable management: UV-resistant adhesive pads and cable ties.

Never connect a solar panel directly to the battery. Always use an appropriate charge controller and protection.

Mounting on a camper, boat, or frame

Camper van: preferably use aluminum Z-profiles.

Flat camper roof: use the Solara ABS spoiler 68 cm white.

Boat: on a suitable flat deck, plastic corner brackets are a practical choice.

Measure the available space beforehand and consider roof hatches, ventilation, rails, cable glands, and the space required for mounting hardware. Carefully degrease the surface, use suitable construction sealant and primers, and seal all penetrations watertight.

Use with a 24V battery

A single panel has insufficient operating voltage for a 24V battery. Use multiple identical panels in series or choose a panel with a higher operating voltage. Always check the maximum open-circuit voltage and the limits of the MPPT charge controller.

Common mistakes
  • Connecting the panel directly to the battery.
  • Insufficient strain relief or inadequate waterproofing of the connection in the junction box.
  • Using a cable that is too thin or missing a fuse.
  • Combining panels with different electrical properties without checking compatibility.
  • Not accounting for shade, roof obstructions, and space for mounting.
