The SolarFam Monocrystalline 200Wp solar panel is a powerful black glass panel for campers, boats, and other off-grid applications. With a power output of 200Wp, you get a relatively high yield from one panel, while its size of 1530 × 670 × 30 mm is still well-suited for many camper roofs.

This panel uses monocrystalline solar cells with an efficiency of 22%. It's a good choice if you want to create a serious charging source for your 12V leisure battery with a capacity of around 100Ah to 200Ah using just one panel.

Which charge controller suits 1 × 200Wp? ▾

For one SolarFam 200Wp panel, we recommend the Victron SmartSolar MPPT 75/15 for a standard 12V leisure battery. This MPPT charge controller pairs well with this panel, has built-in Bluetooth, and can be read via the VictronConnect app.

  • Recommended for 12V: Victron SmartSolar MPPT 75/15.
  • Bluetooth app: convenient for viewing charge status, yield, and settings via your phone.
  • Suitable for multiple battery types: for example, AGM, gel, lead-acid, or LiFePO4.
  • For 24V with one panel: do not use a normal buck-MPPT, but a buck-boost MPPT such as the Western WMarine10 buck-boost MPPT 10A.
One 200Wp panel has insufficient voltage margin to reliably charge a 24V battery with a normal MPPT. For 24V, you typically use multiple panels in series, or a special buck-boost MPPT that can increase the voltage.

With multiple panels, the choice of the correct MPPT charge controller, cabling, fuse, and switching method also changes. Series, parallel, or series-parallel depends on the number of panels, your battery installation, cable length, and the likelihood of shade on the roof.
What is this panel suitable for? ▾

One 200Wp solar panel is an excellent foundation for a simple camper or boat installation. The panel can help charge your leisure battery while stationary and on the move.

  • Campers and panel vans with limited roof space but a need for a powerful charging source.
  • Basic consumers such as LED lighting, water pump, phone chargers, and a compressor refrigerator.
  • Charging a 12V battery via a suitable MPPT charge controller.
  • Charging a 24V battery is only possible with multiple panels in series or with a special buck-boost MPPT.
  • Boats, garden sheds, and small off-grid systems.
  • Expansion of an existing installation, provided panel voltage, charge controller, and existing panels are well-matched.
If you want to be off-grid for several days or use larger consumers such as an inverter, laptop, e-bike charger, or electric cooking, also consider the 400Wp, 600Wp, or 800Wp bundles and the rest of your system: battery, MPPT, alternator charger, and shore power charger.
Mounting on camper roof ▾

This panel is 670 mm wide. For mounting on a flat camper roof, you can use the black 68 cm spoilers. For panel vans, we usually recommend aluminum Z-profiles, set of 6. These are often easier to place on a roof with ribs, curvature, or limited flat mounting surfaces.

  • Flat roofs: plastic spoilers are especially suitable for flat roofs, such as on (semi-)integrated campers or behind the alcove of an alcove camper.
  • Panel lengthwise: if you can place the panel lengthwise on the roof, spoilers at the front and back are often a neat and aerodynamic solution.
  • Panel vans: for roofs with ribs or a slight curve, aluminum Z-profiles are usually more practical than long plastic spoilers.
  • Number of supports: for this 200Wp panel, we recommend the set with 6 aluminum Z-profiles.
  • Thoroughly degrease the roof and follow the instructions for the adhesive, sealant, and primer used.
  • Use a suitable roof entry for the solar cables.
  • Secure cables on the roof firmly with UV-resistant adhesive saddles and cable ties.
  • Prevent cables from chafing, kinking, or moving loosely while driving.
  • Boat: use plastic corner brackets on a suitable flat deck.
When mounting on a camper roof, also consider shade from roof hatches, vents, roof rails, or a roof rack. Even a small amount of shade can significantly reduce the output of a solar panel.

Common mistakes ▾

Can I charge a 24V battery with one 200Wp panel?
Not with a normal MPPT charge controller. The voltage difference between one solar panel and a 24V battery is too small for that. For a 24V battery, you typically use solar panels in series so that the MPPT's input voltage is high enough.

What if I only have space for one 200Wp panel, but want to charge a 24V battery?
Then you can opt for a special buck-boost MPPT, such as the Western WMarine10 buck-boost MPPT 10A. This charge controller can boost the voltage and thus charge a 24V battery with a single panel. The controller has a physical display and is suitable for various battery types, but does not have built-in Bluetooth/app.

What is an alternative if I want approximately 200Wp and have a 24V battery?
Then you can also choose a bundle with 2 × 100Wp mono solar panels. If you connect these two panels in series, you will have roughly the same solar power and sufficient voltage to charge a 24V battery via a normal MPPT without a special buck-boost charger.

Which mounting brackets or spoilers fit this panel?

Can I combine this panel with other solar panels?
Sometimes, but always check that voltage, current, and power are well-matched. Simply combining different panels can lead to yield loss or an illogical load for the charge controller.
