The Faraday Energy Glass PERC S3 is a robust 200Wp glass solar panel for RVs (and boats), featuring modern monocrystalline PERC cells. This panel is often an excellent choice when you want additional charging capacity but have less roof space than with larger panels.
Tip: Most questions are not about the panel, but about "what else do I need?" That is clearly outlined below.
What can you expect from solar panels on an RV?
- You recharge your house battery as soon as there is sun, allowing you to stay off-grid longer.
- Output depends on solar irradiance, season, and the battery's state of charge.
- When the battery is mostly full, the charge controller automatically reduces the charging current. This is normal behavior.
On RVs, solar panels are usually mounted flat on the roof. Therefore, the output primarily depends on solar intensity, season, and battery status.
Why this 200Wp panel?
Practical choice for limited roof space
- 200Wp often strikes a good balance between output and available roof space.
- Fits well in installations where you don't want "maximum" output, but do want noticeable supplementary charging (refrigerator, lighting, phone/laptop, water pump).
Modern cell technology (PERC + 13 busbars)
- Monocrystalline PERC cells with high efficiency (up to 22.9%).
- 13 busbars per cell for efficient current distribution.
- Two-part design + bypass diodes primarily help with partial shading.
Robust for RV use
- Sturdy aluminum frame and tempered glass.
- Weather-resistant junction box.
- UV- and weather-resistant cables with MC4 connectors (cable length 80 cm).
Highlighted: 2 "sections" (parallel) – better in partial shade
This Faraday panel is constructed from two parallel-connected sections. As a result, the panel often performs better in practice if one section is (partially) shaded — something that regularly occurs when camping (roof hatch, lamppost, tree branches).
- Practical advantage: less "collapse" of output in case of shade on one part of the panel.
- Useful on RVs: shade is often local, not across the entire panel.
Shade is always detrimental; this design primarily helps with partial shade.
Warranty
- 5-year manufacturer's warranty.
- 10-year performance warranty > 90%.
What do you need? (complete kit in 5 steps)
For 1× 200Wp on an existing RV, you typically need the following:
1) Charge controller (MPPT)
- Faraday SmartSolar MPPT 100/20 — smart choice, good price/quality.
- Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/20 — Victron ecosystem, VictronConnect app.
For a single 200Wp panel, a 100/20 is a logical match in many 12V RVs. If you want to expand with additional panels later, please share your plans with us to avoid having to buy again later.
2) Solar cable set (panel → MPPT)
6mm² is relatively thick: less voltage loss and often the safer choice for longer cable runs.
3) Battery cable set + fuse (MPPT → house battery)
- Battery cable set 6mm² 2 × 1m + 25A fuse (fuse on battery side)
This is the "mounting wire" to connect the charge controller neatly and safely to the service/house battery.
4) Roof gland (cables inside)
- Plastic double roof gland white (most chosen)
- Other options: all cable glands
5) Cable management on the roof

Dimensions & placement
- Dimensions (l × w × d): 1530 × 670 × 35 mm
- Weight: 10 kg
- Cables: UV/weather-resistant solar cables with MC4 (length 80 cm)
Tip: make a cardboard "template" of the dimensions and place it on the roof (or measure between roof hatches, roof racks, and ventilation). This way, you'll immediately know if this size fits well.
Mounting: which attachment suits your RV roof?
Van conversions (roof with ridges/grooves): usually Z-brackets
- Aluminum Z-brackets (set of 6) — simple, strong, and practical on roofs with ridges.
Flat roofs (semi-integrated/integrated): corner brackets or spoilers
Sealant & primers
For plastic corner brackets/spoilers, we recommend construction adhesive + corresponding primers. Often, there are two primers: one for metal (roof) and one for plastic (attachment).

When in doubt: combine with mechanical fastening (screws) and seal neatly with sealant.

Frequently asked questions
Does this 200Wp panel fit an MPPT 100/20?
In many 12V RVs, that is a good combination. The main difference often lies in your expansion plan: if you want to add extra panels later, it's wise to consider that now when making your choice.
I want to install 2 panels: series or parallel? (and 12V/24V)
For these Faraday panels, we usually recommend parallel connection (not in series) for two panels. This fits well with 12V systems and leverages the advantage of the two "sections" in partial shade.
- 12V charging: 1–2 panels in parallel is often the most logical choice in practice.
- 24V battery charging: these panels are less ideal; in this case, choose a panel type that is more suited for series configurations (one string/“section”).
- Important (safety): combine our 200Wp and 225Wp panels up to a maximum of 2 panels in parallel to stay within the maximum current of the MC4 connector.
Are you unsure about your situation (12V/24V, MPPT choice, expansion)? Send us your plan, and we'll quickly check if everything remains electrically sound and safe.
Why do you recommend 6mm² cable?
Thicker cable means less voltage loss and less heat at the same current. This helps especially with longer cable runs.
