The SolarFam BC 120Wp black solar panel is a compact glass panel for campervans and RVs. With dimensions of 1050 × 580 mm, this panel often fits well on roofs where space is limited, for example next to a skylight, vent, or roof rail.

This panel uses BC / HPBC back-contact solar cells. There are no prominent busbars visible on the front, giving the panel a clean, all-black appearance. Combined with the black frame, this is a neat choice for a fixed solar panel installation on an RV roof.

Tip: always measure your RV roof carefully beforehand. Take into account skylights, vents, roof rails, shade from accessories, and the location of the cable gland. Also, measure the required space for the mounting hardware. Roof brackets or spoilers often protrude slightly beyond the panel, and the necessary space depends on the chosen mounting method.

Note: with multiple panels, the choice of the correct MPPT charge controller and the wiring method also changes. Series, parallel, or series-parallel depends on the number of panels, your battery installation, cable length, and the chance of shading on the roof.
What is this panel suitable for? ▾

This 120Wp solar panel is suitable for fixed mounting on RVs, campervans, and other compact off-grid applications where a neat black glass panel is desired.

Do you use a compressor fridge, laptop, inverter, or do you want to stay off-grid for several days? Then one 120Wp panel is often a useful basis, but usually not sufficient as the sole charging source. In that case, consider multiple panels, a larger battery capacity, and possibly charging via alternator or shore power.
Mounting on an RV roof ▾

This panel is usually mounted with aluminum roof brackets or spoilers. Ensure strong mechanical mounting, good sealing, and a neat cable routing indoors.

This panel is wider than the narrow 100Wp Mono Black panel. Therefore, when mounting with spoilers, we recommend 55 cm spoilers rather than 45 cm spoilers.
Connecting to battery and MPPT ▾

Do not connect this solar panel directly to the battery. Always use a suitable charge controller, preferably an MPPT charge controller. It converts the panel voltage to a suitable charging voltage for your battery.

  • Use UV-resistant solar cable between panel and charge controller.
  • For one panel on a 12V battery installation, the Victron SmartSolar MPPT 75/10 is usually a suitable choice.
  • Always place a fuse or suitable DC protection on the battery side of the MPPT.
  • For example, use a battery cable set 4mm² with 15A fuse for smaller systems.
  • For multiple panels: check if the maximum input voltage and charging current of the MPPT are suitable.
One single 120Wp panel is intended for charging a 12V battery via MPPT. For a 24V battery installation, you typically need multiple panels in series, so that the panel voltage is high enough. Feel free to send us your plans, and we will help you determine the appropriate controller and wiring.

  • Connecting the solar panel directly to a battery without a charge controller.

What is the advantage of BC / HPBC solar cells?
With back-contact cells, the electrical contacts are on the back of the cell. This means the front has no prominent busbars. This gives a sleek appearance and can help with good light utilization.

Is this a 12V solar panel?
This panel is often used in 12V camper systems, but you do not connect it directly to a 12V battery. You use a suitable MPPT charge controller between the solar panel and the battery.

Can I charge a 24V battery with one panel?
No, in practice, a single 120Wp panel is not suitable for that with a standard MPPT charge controller. For a 24V battery installation, you need multiple panels in series or a solar panel with a higher panel voltage.

Which MPPT do you recommend for one panel?

Does this panel fit every RV roof?
