Camper electrical system for Frank’s Toyota Land Cruiser: self-build with guidance
Deel
Frank Ressing is converting his Toyota Land Cruiser GRJ 78 into a camper. As an electrician, he carries out a lot of the technical work himself. For the camper's electrical system, he sought support with component selection, design, and equipment setup. He found Faraday Energy via Google.
From travel plans to an electrical design
We started with a one-hour consultation. What does Frank need during his travels, and how can we best support him with the build? Together, we determined which components suited his plans.
We designed the installation in a custom electrical drawing and supplied the equipment, including cables and connection materials. Frank handled the installation and wiring in his Land Cruiser himself.
A 24-volt installation
Frank chose two 12-volt, 150 Ah lithium batteries. These are connected in series to form a 24-volt, 150 Ah battery bank. A 3000-watt Xenteq PurePower Switch inverter provides the 230V supply.
Several charging options are available: a Victron Orion XS 1400 for use on the road, a Blue Smart battery charger for shore power, and a SmartSolar charge controller for solar energy. A separate 24V-to-12V converter powers the 12V appliances. Frank can monitor the battery status via the Victron BMV-700 battery monitor.

Installed himself, commissioned together
Frank installed the system neatly and clearly in the interior. On October 13, 2026, he came by to connect the batteries, set up the equipment, and test the entire system.
We adjusted the settings of the chargers, battery monitor, and inverter for the lithium batteries and checked the operation of the installation. Everything went smoothly: Frank's careful installation and our joint preparation came together perfectly.
This collaboration shows what support can mean for a self-build project. Frank brought his own expertise and manual skills; we supported him with system choices, materials, drawings, and commissioning.
Ready for the next step
As the electrical installation was being completed, Frank's first trip was scheduled for a few weeks later. With the electrical system connected, set up, and tested, he could continue with the final preparations for his camper.
